Calastapeas' Gathering

As with all privileges, there also comes responsibility, for both the child and the companion. Those who long for the connection they will never have, sometimes fail to realize the price that also comes with that connection. It is always easier to envy another when you don’t know the whole story, when you don’t know the sacrifices and you don’t pay the cost.

Author's Note

For those of you who have been reading the Tales of Lamac Series from the beginning, you already know a lot of background of Lamac and her inhabitants.  To those who have not, I cannot tell you much in an author’s note, when it took books to tell it the first time.  What I can tell you is that Lamac is a wonderful world that was created by Meric for his bride Delfin.  Once Lamac was established and flourishing with inhabitants and creatures, they had a daughter, Anara.  Lamac is a living world and her inhabitants have many wondrous abilities.  They can fly, breath under water, have an almost immortal lifespan, do not age as we think of aging as their bodies do not start to deteriorate once they grow up.  They can communicate with all kinds of people and creatures and live in harmony with their surroundings.

On Lamac every child eventually chooses a creature companion.  This is a bond that goes beyond the usual bond of child with other creatures or other people.  It is a connection that joins their hearts and when they allow it, it also joins their minds and emotions.  It is a very special privilege to be chosen by one of Lamac’s children.  It usually happens during the child’s early years, sometimes as early as the infant years.  Sometimes the child sends out a call that carries to other worlds, as in Tales of Lamac, Book Two, The Birth of Takaira.  Sometimes the call is to a creature of Lamac, as with Sedrik and Hadwyn.  Sometimes a child creates his own companion, as with Kyle and Snarlfluff.  However it comes about, it is a very special joining for both child and creature, and both are changed by it.

Since there are so many more creatures than children, most are not chosen as creature companions.  The creatures understand this, yet still hope to be one of those that are chosen.  But even those who are not chosen as a creature companion still lead wonderful lives, raise families, and enjoy the good things of Lamac.
