“Pathways”

Lord again I take a step,

I cannot see ahead.

The path is twisted every way,

So I cling to what You said.

You promised to lead me always,

If I look to You.

You promised to help me forward,

And to show me what is true.

Your promises are real to me,

Especially when a crossroad I face.

I trust to what I cannot see,

And move another space.

Sometimes the road seems blocked,

By things I cannot lift.

But prayer releases help,

So in wandering I do not drift.

I think I’ve overcome,

One obstacle or another,

But a new one towers before me,

This one harder than the other.

Sometimes they can be moved,

Or pushed out of the way.

Sometimes they need to be climbed,

Or cause me to pause until the light of day.

When obstacles rise before me,

Their purpose I do not know.

But in looking back on some of them,

I know they’ve helped me grow.

But the next one is still hard,

And it will cause me to strain,

And beg and plead for help,

And for understanding to gain.

Strength has failed me in the past,

It will fail me again I’m sure.

But in God’s steady hand I can depend,

And with His help I will endure.
